anchor
anchor - The HTML code that lets you set up hyperlinks.
Anchor text is the descriptive word or phrase that users click when they're on your web pages. Search engines generally give high weight to the text found in anchors.
From a search engine optimization (SEO) perspective, you're missing an opportunity to increase your search engine visibility if you use anchor text such as "click here" or "more...".
animated GIF
animated GIF - An ancient torture device.
Animated GIF files annoy your website visitors, and motivate them to hit their web browsers' "back" buttons.
applet
applet - A java program that you can run on your website that may scare away users.
Users at some large corporations, government agencies, and nonprofits sit behind firewalls that block java programs. Many users have java turned off for security reasons. Some search engines cannot access or index the information on your website that is delivered via java applets.
application service provider
application service provider - A delivery vehicle by which users rent or lease software instead of buying it.
Many would argue that "application service provider" is the last decade's buzzword for what we call "software as a service" (SaaS) today.
A major advantage of ASP and SaaS is that the software is always up-to-date and maintenance-free. Users don't have to worry about program installation or upgrades.
