call to action
call to action - Asking for the software sale.
A call to action is usually the part of your website or trial software that gives your prospect your best sales pitch, and asks for the sale.
You can talk about features and benefits until the cows come home. But if you don't ask for the sale, you're not going to generate a lot of income. Each description of your software's features and benefits should include a call to action. Examples would be including the phrase "Order Now", displaying a "buy now" button, or providing a link to your order page.
Other calls to action include getting people to download the trial version of your software, sign up for your newsletter, telephone you to ask a question, or visit your blog.
CAN-SPAM Act
CAN-SPAM Act - A US law passed in 2003 that created rules that business emailers must follow.
CAN-SPAM Act rules include offering each recipient the ability to easily opt out of receiving future emails, using a non-deceptive email subject line on every email, including the address of the sender of the emails, and clearly indicating adult emailings.
canonical site
canonical site - Your main web site.
Perhaps you have your servers set up to recognize both my-site.com and www.my-site.com. From the search engines' perspective, these are two completely different websites.
If you're not careful, you might be splitting your search engine equity between the two sites. You can use HTML to specify which of the two sites is the one that the search engines should treat as the "real" site - the canonical site.
cascading style sheets
cascading style sheets - An HTML feature that lets you put your website's design information in a single place.
By specifying once the fonts, colors, and other style elements that you want to use on your website, you can ensure consistency from page to page.
Older browsers do not support CSS properly.
case
case - An attribute of text.
Variations include UPPERCASE WORDS, Capitalized Words, and lower case words.
Uppercase words are hard to read, and generally are annoying to the people who visit your website. Some search engines distinguish between capitalized words and lower case words. If "email" is an important keyword for you, be sure that your site has email, Email, e-mail, and E-mail in your web text.
