Barefoot Productions has released Twinkle Bulbs v. 3.5, an enjoyable Windows 95/98/NT utility that lets you hang a string of virtual blinking colored holiday lights at the top of (or around) your screen, and add festive holiday music, wallpaper and screen savers to your computer.

Twinkle Bulbs has more than 120 bulb sets, backgrounds, and music files to add holiday cheer at Christmas, Easter, St. Patrick's Day, Halloween, Valentine's Day, Thanksgiving, Independence Day, and all of the major holidays.

You can change the number of lights as well as their colors and blinking patterns. You can even display broken and burned-out bulbs. Twinkle Bulbs lets you select and play holiday music, either from its archive of songs, or from your own collection of MIDI files. The program includes a selection of seasonal and special-effect screen savers, as well as a Windows wallpaper changer.

Twinkle Bulbs is simple to install and use, and its control panel is easily accessed from the Windows system tray.

AutoShutdown Brings Savings and Security to Windows

Barefoot Productions has released AutoShutdown v. 3.0, a Windows 95/98/NT utility that lets you control how and when your computer shuts down. AutoShutdown makes it easy to log off a user, restart Windows, or shut down your entire computer system, either at a set date and time, during a period of inactivity, or when a hot key is pressed. AutoShutdown also supports unattended shutdowns, allowing you to restart a server or power off a computer.

In addition to saving money by powering down inactive computers, AutoShutdown's security features can keep unauthorized people from gaining access to your computer's sensitive information. AutoShutdown can delete files by moving them to the recycle bin, or clean files by over-writing them to ensure that they are destroyed. The program can empty your recycle bin, delete temporary files, remove cookies, clear history files, remove the list of recently used files from the Start menu, clear the Internet cache, and run any program before you shut down your standalone or networked computer.

The AutoRespond feature lets AutoShutdown automatically answer message windows that appear as you close down your system, whether the dialogs were created by Windows or by your other applications. The program will either respond with the default selections, or you can program it to give specific responses to specific messages.

If your system is networked and you're running Windows NT, AutoShutdown lets you power down any of your NT client machines. And using Windows NT, 98 or 95, AutoShutdown makes it easy to communicate via TCP/IP protocol with other computers on the network. AutoShutdown lets you create common procedures for all users, or different settings for each user. For additional security, the program lets you password protect its control settings, and it produces a log of all shutdown activity.

AutoShutdown monitors system resources and will warn you when they are running low, allowing you to shut down the machine, restart Windows or re-boot the machine.
