File-Ex 98 - A Windows 95/98 Power-User Enhancement to File-Open and File-Save Dialogs

LEAWOOD, KS -- July 23rd, 1998 -- Cottonwood Software today announces the release of File-Ex 98, a power-user's tool simple enough for anyone to use, which automatically adds time-saving functionality to the Open and Save As dialogs of Windows 95/98 applications. Cottonwood Software's president Stan Spielbusch reports that "File-Ex 98 is the first product on the market to feature both dialog enlargement and file management enhancements in one low-cost package".

File-Ex 98 is designed to reduce the effort normally required to do the 'simple' task of opening or saving a file. The auto-enlargement feature allows more files to be displayed at once, minimizing the need to scroll the window. File-Ex 98 also adds "favorite files" and "favorite folders" lists, as well as "recent files" and "recent folders" lists, directly to the file dialogs. This may mean never having to navigate with the "Look-In" tree again.

Other additions include file management buttons (for those who hate the right-click functions), a file information line (to avoid switching to details view), and automatically changing to the last directory used (a real time-saver for those programs which fail to include this feature). File-Ex 98 even adds long filename support to 16-bit applications, so those old favorite programs will be even more useful. File-Ex 98 works automatically with most applications, and needs little if any tweaking from the typical user. However, File-Ex 98 has many configuration options and can be "trained" to work with nearly any application, even if that application doesn't use the standard Open and Save As dialogs.

File-Ex 98 runs unobtrusively as a small icon in the taskbar tray, or can be hidden entirely. File-Ex works on any 80386 or better IBM compatible PC running Windows 95 or Windows 98. A version of File-Ex is also available for Windows 3.1x users, with the same features except long filename support.

File-Ex 98 may be purchased by credit card, check or money order directly from Cottonwood Software for $29.95 (add $2.00 for shipping in North America, $4.00 elsewhere), or from The Thompson Partnership in the U.K. Orders may also be placed directly on Cottonwood's web site (http://www.cottonwoodsw.com). A fully functional 30-day trial version can also be downloaded from Cottonwood's web site.

Cottonwood Software was founded in 1995 to deliver quality software applications and utilities for personal computer users. Cottonwood Software is located at P.O. Box 6546, Leawood, KS 66206, USA, and may also be reached by phone (913-663-3022), FAX (913-663-3747), and E-mail (info@cottonwoodsw.com).
