SafenSigned makes Software Distributed over the Net Safe and SoundFebruary, 1998 For Immediately Release Contact: Gary Liu, garyliu@securisys.com (626)-448-4273 SafenSigned makes Software Distributed over the Net Safe and Sound SecuriSys Corporation has released a new version of SafenSigned (v1.2) that makes software and other digital content distributed over the Internet safe and sound. SafenSigned consists of two programs, the SafenSigned File Signer and the SafenSigned Verifier. The author of the digital content uses the File Signer to digitally sign any file distributed over the Internet. The recipients of the signed file use the Verifier to verify the digital signature. A successful verification of the digital signature ensures that the file is truly from the author and has not been modified in the distribution channel, either by accident or by malicious attempt. To make the programs easier to use, the File Signer has built-in functions to directly create signed ZIP files and self-extractors - two most commonly used file types to distribute software and other digital contents over the Internet. The Verifier, on the other hand, includes an easy to use unzip function to unzip signed as well as unsigned ZIP files. One nice feature of the SafenSigned digital signature is that for many file types, the signed file functions the same as the unsigned one in its normal usage. For example, a signed ZIP archive can be unzipped by any ordinary unzip utility in exactly the same way as an ordinary ZIP archive. Most of the executable files still run after being signed. In particular, a signed self-extractor runs and extracts files without the help of the Verifier. This feature ensures that signing an existing ZIP file or a self-extractor will not cause any inconvenience to the users who do not yet have the Verifier, but for those who do have it, the file authenticity and data integrity can be verified. There is no reason to distribute ordinary (unsigned) ZIP or self-extractor files any more. SafenSigned uses a 1024 bit Rabin public key digital signature to protect signed files. The Rabin algorithm is as secure as RSA algorithm but has an extremely fast signature verification part. This makes the Rabin algorithm an ideal choice for signing digital contents to be distributed over the Internet, because the file is signed only once by the author but will be verified many times by the users. The new version of SafenSigned includes functions supporting the Signature ID Server maintained by SecuriSys Corporation. The File Signer 1.2 lets the signature owner submit the signature ID to the ID Server to have it listed. The Verifier 1.2 lets the users look up the signature in the ID server with one mouse click. Since the Server manager has a policy to remove entries it considers not trustworthy and a procedure to confirm certain entries, the listed signature IDs represents certain level of trust worthiness. When a signature ID entry is confirmed, SecuriSys also issues a digital certificate to certify that the signature truly belongs to the person or other entity identified by the entry in the Signature ID Server. The programs are designed for Windows 95 and Window-NT 4.0. They are easy to install and unninstall. A fully functional trial version can be downloaded from http://www.securisys.com/ and many shareware sites. The price for the File Signer is $35/copy, and the Verifier is $15/copy. The optional confirmation of the signature ID entry in the ID Server, including the digital certificate, is $25 for a two year period.

SecureZIP Brings Convenience and Security to ZIP files.October, 1998 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: SecureZIP Brings Convenience and Security to ZIP files. SecuriSys Corporation has released SecureZIP - a Windows95/98/NT based software that lets you handle ZIP files easily and securely. Powerful zip/unzip features include drag and drop interface, context menus, view or run files inside a ZIP archive, automatic installation of software distributed in a ZIP archive, search for ZIP files in your computer, temporarily checkout the files in a ZIP archive to see what they are before installing them, directly download a file from the Internet and automatically open it, and an intelligent Unzip Wizard. These features make SecureZIP extremely easy to use, even for users who have never seen a ZIP file before. Unlike any other ZIP utilities in the market today, however, SecureZIP provides strong security functions to protect your ZIP and other type of files. It lets you sign a ZIP archive or other type of file with your unique 1024-bit digital signature. The recipient of your file can then use SecureZIP to verify the signature to ensure that the file is authentic and has not been modified in the distribution channel. This makes it nearly impossible for anyone to modify your file in the distribution channel or to distribute a Trojan Horse under your name. Such malicious attacks have already happened to several popular programs distributed in ZIP format, including PKZIP, the first ZIP utility published by PKWARE, Inc.
SecureZIP contains public-key/secret-key encryption functions to protect your files against unauthorized access and to send secret files to others securely. The U.S.-only version uses a 168-bit Triple DES and 1024-bit public-key encryption and will only be shipped to addresses within the U.S. and Canada. The exportable version currently does not contain any encryption functions. However, SecuriSys promises to add 56-bit encryption capability to the exportable version and will give it free to users who purchased the current exportable version, as soon as it obtains the approval of the U.S. government. 56-bit encryption products are now exportable after a one time review. SecureZIP is fully compatible with SafenSigned - a popular digital signature utility released earlier by SecuriSys. By integrating SafenSigned digital signature functions into a general ZIP utility that everyone needs, SecuriSys hopes to make its SafenSigned Signature even more popular. A trial version of the program can be downloaded from http://www.securisys.com/ . For further information, please contact:
